The 2023 China-Japan-South Korea Summer Program on Innovative Engineering Design was successfully held
Date:2023-09-01 View:

From August 21st to 28th, the 11th China-Japan-South Korea Summer Program on Innovative Engineering Design (SPIED) was successfully held at Inje University in Busan, South Korea. More than ninety teachers and students participated in this SPIED. They came from thirteen universities in China, Japan and South Korea, including Jiangsu University, Anhui University, Yamaguchi University, Inje University and Chungbuk National University. Two teachers and fifteen students in our school were selected to participate in this project.

The SPIED adopts a mixed approach of online and offline maker education: in the middle of July, the international teaching team conducted mixed grouping for students from China, Japan and South Korea; from late July to mid-August, the teaching team organized each group to conceptualize creative projects with the theme of "Design Green Campus with Emerging Technology" and demonstrated the feasibility of the projects online; from August 21st to 28th, team members met face-to-face in the "Maker Space" at Inje University to refine their creative designs and produced their works by the use of 3D printers, Arduino kits and other equipment.

The students in our school have achieved great results in this SPIED, with a total of one grand prize, five gold prizes, and eight silver prizes. Among them, the project "Automatic Garage Classification Device based on Machine Version" hosted by Qin Hailong from School of Computer Science and Communication Engineering was awarded the grand prize.

China-Japan-South Korea SPIED has been jointly sponsored by Jiangsu University, Yamaguchi University and Kunsan National University since 2013. It is organized by universities in China, Japan, and South Korea in rotation every year with a period of 1-2 weeks. SPIED is targeted towards college students majoring in mechanical, electronic, information, control, and computer science. English is used as the communication language and maker practice is carried out on hot interdisciplinary topics. The purpose of SPIED is to realize the integration of multidisciplinary knowledge, improve the ability of interdisciplinary innovation, team awareness and international communication for students, and gradually guide students to embark on the road of innovation and entrepreneurship by grouping students from different countries and majors for physical creation. Our school has successfully held SPIED in 2014, 2017 and 2021. (International Office, Industrial Center)
